Welcome to Harris Leatherworks!
Harris Leatherworks has been creating quality, handmade leatherwork since the spring of 2008. Each piece is crafted from start to finish using traditional techniques while incorporating my own patterns and designs.
I work mainly with vegetable tanned cowhide, although I'm beginning to throw other types of leather into the mix. When I begin a project I start with a hide and cut out pattern pieces, bevel edges, design artwork, dye and attach hardware. Then I'm ready to sew, which I do, mostly, by hand. Just this year, however, I purchased a lovely "new" Singer sewing machine. It was made in 1909 in Scotland and has been a life saver!
Each piece is original and individual, many pieces bearing the marks left behind from the animals life. On many of my finished pieces you will see scars from insect bites, brands or just from a life lived outdoors. To me, these marks serve as a reminder that we are using a product from the farming industry that would otherwise go to waste, and we are therefore honouring the animals life and reducing our ecological footprint.
I'm so glad you found me! I hope you will visit me often as this site will continue to evolve as new pieces are created and new patterns are designed.
